Essar Steel Algoma is a major manufacturer of Hot and Cold Rolled Sheet Steels in carbon and HSLA grades. These steels are widely used in many manufacturing applications - especially those employed in the North American automotive industry.
This highly competitive industry places great demands upon its suppliers. Essar Steel Algoma responds with quality-enhancing technology advances which are based on a long history of innovation in sheet steel manufacture.
Hot and Cold-Rolled Sheet are also formed into a variety of high-quality mechanical and hollow structural pipe and tubing products through cold forming and electric resistance welding. They are used in furniture and automobiles as well as construction and the oil and gas industries.
Essar Steel Algoma's product development team works closely with customers so that our sheet steel products will satisfy their specific needs. Industry's ongoing and changing needs for quality, efficiency and customer service are challenges which Algoma gladly accepts.
Essar Steel Algoma produces hot rolled sheet at two complexes - the new Direct Strip Production Complex (DSPC) Mill and the 106" Strip Mill.
Essar Steel Algoma's DSPC produces some of North America's highest quality hot rolled sheet. The DSPC is designed to meet the needs of the hot-rolled sheet markets in North America. Superior surface quality, dimensional control and consistent chemical and mechanical properties are setting new standards within the industry. This facility expands Essar Steel Algoma's thickness range and capability in HSLA and formable grades.
The 106" Strip Mill is one of the widest in North America, capable of manufacturing sheet and light gauge plate to a maximum slit edge width of 96". Medium and high carbon steels as well as HSLA formable grades and floor plate are produced on this facility.
Essar Steel Algoma's Cold Mill can produce sheet to a maximum width of 74". To make cold-rolled products, hot rolled coils are pickled in diluted hydrochloric acid, then reduced to meet exacting customer specifications.
Superior surface, combined with consistent dimensional and mechanical properties that are obtained from our DSPC hot-rolled sheet, are carried through the Cold Mill process, enhancing the product's characteristics. 1/4 ASTM gauge tolerance is offered when using DSPC substrate. Both annealed and full hard products are available.
