Employees Donate over 175 Gifts to Local Children; Company Matches with $3000 Donation
SAULT STE. MARIE, ONTARIO, December 1, 2021 – Algoma Steel Inc. (‘Algoma”) is celebrating its employees and their generous participation in the Christmas Cheer Toy Drive once again this year, with a donation of $3000 to complement their contribution of over 175 gifts for local children. This marks 41 years that Algoma employees have supported this important community giving campaign.
“This drive is about more than donating toys for children. This drive is about making sure that local families in our community can enjoy the holidays with some of the financial stress removed,” Algoma Steel Chief Executive Officer Michael McQuade commented on the employee initiative. “At Algoma, we know how important it is to be a reliable community partner, and we love being able to support organizations that align with our values. We are proud of our employees’ support for this cause and knowing that the need is great this year we are boosting their initiative with a matching donation in the hopes that together we can do more.”
“We are incredibly thankful to Algoma Steel employees for their generous donation. This contribution will help us provide Christmas Cheer baskets for approximately 1600 families in the Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding area” said Christmas Cheer Coordinator Diane Marshall. “Algoma Steel’s support for this cause has now spanned more than four decades, demonstrating a remarkable commitment to their community. With help from organizations like Algoma, we are making a meaningful difference in the place we call home and in the lives of our friends and neighbours in need.”
For those wishing to donate, the Christmas Cheer depot is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Tuesday, December 14th. Delivery Day is Wednesday, December 15th. The Christmas Cheer drive is accepting new toys, monetary donations, and gift cards for this year’s campaign. Donations can be brought to the former Walmart location at the Station Mall.
