Algoma Steel is committed to the health and well-being of everyone at our workplace.   To this end, we have implemented a robust program to protect the health of everyone onsite and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

All employees, contractors, and visitors are required to attest their COVID health to come on Algoma Steel property. Please note that masks must be worn when a physical distance of 2 meters cannot be maintained, this includes when working in small, enclosed spaces and in any vehicle on Algoma Steel property. Contact your Algoma Steel representative for more details.

  • Introduced physical distancing protocols including such measures as staggered lunches and breaks, reduced room capacity limits, virtual meetings, and online training, and work from home arrangements wherever possible;
  • Heightened our hygiene and sanitation practices;
  • Introduced a comprehensive site-wide Mask Policy and additional protective equipment for targeted applications;
  • Restricted visitors to our site and introduced screening protocols for all employees, contract workers, and essential service providers including truck drivers and couriers;
  • Implemented protocols in accordance with public health directives for employees and contractor personnel who fall under a self-isolation scenario; and
    Introduced an Employee Hotline where employees can call with any questions or concerns they may have

We encourage employees and their families to avail themselves of the Employee and Family Assistance Program for support at this time and we have augmented our service offering to include BEACON cognitive behavioural therapy.

Steps have been taken to ensure business continuity measures are in place.  We continue to monitor developments, audit for compliance and adjust our response accordingly.
